project background
This project is a collection of collages each centered around one of the five senses: touch, sight, smell, sound, and taste. Each piece incorporates the use of imagery pertaining to their respective sense. However, they also contain elements that unifies them as one cohesive collection such as the use of flowers, circular compositions, and a background of antique paper.
moodboard and sketches
sight
For this piece of the project, I collected images of various things that either require our enhance our ability to see (books, globes, a magnifying glass, etc.)
smell
This collage explores both pleasant and unpleasant ways in which our sense of smell is affected. The flowers and perfume offer a bright and refreshing component to the piece whilst the skunk juxtaposes these pleasurable feelings with a reminder that not everything our noses pick up will always be something we enjoy.
sound
This piece is distinct from the others in its storytelling aspect. Here, the trumpet and bird are both at work creating their own music, prompting the viewer to consider the ways in which we emulate (or perhaps complement) nature in order to enhance our own lives. The flowers emerging from the trumpet help solidify the idea of man’s connection to nature and its integration in fundamental parts of our lives, such as music.
