project background

Ferdowsi Tonics is a beverage company named after Persian poet Abul-Qâsem Ferdowsi Tusi. The company seeks to bring Persian culture into the home by featuring a different artist from this culture within each of their collections. This particular collection features Farschian, a painter and master of Persian miniatures. The bottles contain sharbateh albaloo and sekanjabin syrups which are mixed with water to create delicious sour cherry flavored and mint flavored drinks

visual audit

I visited both a local Persian market (Mission Ranch Market) in order to understand what packaging in this area looks like and how this product would compare to its competitors.

brand development

A lot of time was dedicated to understanding what exists in the current competitive landscape, finding various sources of inspiration, and developing a design that would stand out amongst other products.

Dielines C and D (below)

Dieline C contains the graphics that wrap around the rigid carton that Dieline D was used to create.

Dieline C also contains one panel that reads “The Mahmoud Farshchian Collection” as well as another that contains a poem by the brand’s namesake. The panel’s title and poem are as follows:

Ferdowsi: Shahnameh (977 - 1010 CE)

“The ant that bears grain, you ought not to oppress!

It has life, and sweet life is a joy to possess!

He's a merciless man, and hard-hearted, at best,

Who harbours the wish that an ant be distressed.

With the hand of oppression, the weak, do not beat!

For ant-like, one day, you may fall at their feet.

For the moth’s state, the candle all sympathy spurned;

Before the assembly, observe how it burned!

I admit there are many more feeble than you;

Than you, at least One is more puissant, too.”
